MX4D Experience

MX4D is a  relatively new interactive experience for movie goers. The MX4D allows viewers to become more immersed in the movie than 3D movies by using the 5 senses. The movie theatre enhances the viewer experience using moving chairs, water squirters, scents sprays, and other sense stimulators. I had been to one MX4D theatre previously at Sea World. It had been quite a few years so my memory of the experience was not clear. What I remembered was being sprayed with water, but that is about it. My experience was sub par. I was sitting in the very front row so that negatively affected my experience. I think the moving seats was the best overall, but I did not enjoy the weird butt bumps because it did not match well with the movie. My least favorite part of the experience was the water/air sprays. In theory it's nice if there is water action, but when there was gun shots it was just annoying being sprayed at the back of my head repeatedly.
I think MX4D negatively affected my view of Justice League. The effects were a bit distracting at times because they did not make sense or were too stimulating. At times the effects were nice, I suppose, but not that great. Personally, I think being able to watch the movie without effects allow me to be more immersed in the movie because I can actually focus on what is happening. The idea of 3D movies was quite revolutionary when it came out, but now it is not that appealing. Having to wear glasses over my regular glasses do not work well because my glasses are too big. I would prefer 4D over 3D because of the level of experience, but overall I prefer the traditional 2D.  I think in action scenes seat movements would be utilized best. Maybe in nature scenes the use of scents could be nice, but otherwise not that effective.
Alternate Reality headsets would be the next best technology to bring people to theatre, but people can buy those already so they could watch movies at home. The other option would be a holographic experience where the theatre turns into the setting where people can actually be immersed into the movie. This would definitely only allow people to view these movies at a theatre, but if developers were able to create this technology I feel like most people would be able to have access in their homes. It would also help if the tickets and concessions weren't  overpriced. I know that has to do with the economy, but spending $20+ for a movie, drink, and popcorn when I could spend $10 for a wide movie selection and less than $5 for snacks makes it less appealing. I would go back to watch another 4D movie. A horror movie would be great for 4D.
