This Semester...
PSA
Our first project this semester was our PSA about peer pressure. It took us about 2-3 days to film and a week overall including editing. We struggled as a group to figure out filming time because of conflicting schedule and everyone participating. I definitely should have dressed more of the part for my role because it did not match. We should have also gotten better audio and lighting in certain scenes, especially the night scene. People overall liked the PSA except for the sound and lighting. If we refilmed it I would definitely change my outfit, get better audio, lighting, and use a different lens to create more depth. This was the better video of this semester.

Our group originally chose Courtney's script, but after shooting we realized that the footage was bad and trying to do a party scene would not work. Instead we chose my script, but revised it in order to be able to shoot it as efficiently as possible. y script was originally about a boy and girl who both suffered from social anxiety and together they are able to work on it and overcome it. In total the shooting, pre-planning, and editing took about a week and a half. There was a lot of problems with this film. The original script did not work, we had to completely revise my script, video quality was not the best, finding locations was difficult, editing could definitely be better, and only half of our group could show up to the shoot. Our original script idea was too complicated for the time constraints. My script had to revised to reduce locations so that there was less travel time and more time to shoot. We only had my camera and tripod, but no audio. It did it's job, but definitely could have benefited from using a different lens and having audio from an external device not the camera or my phone memos. Trying to find a coffee shop was very difficult because POUR never responded to my email despite them telling me the owner would most likely get back to me within the day, Black dog was too busy, and JCCC ended up working, but was not the vibe I was going for. The edit definitely could have been cleaner and overall better with background music. Schedule conflicts was a theme throughout this semester. Only 3 people from our group could show up to the shoot the first day, and only 2 the second day. I think we did well for only 3 people and one being an actor, but it would have been nice to have additional help. I learned that pre planning is very important because if we thought about the original script more and how we could shoot it, we would have realized it would have been too difficult. As a group we were told that there should have been background music to add the ambiance, better audio, lighting, and our actor should have expressed the his feelings in a different way because it did not convey well. I agree with all of it, it was just that time and the fact that we didn't have access. If we filmed this again I would have liked to keep more of the different locations in the scripts to add more dimension rather than being the same place every time. I also would have tried to get different equipment, or at the very least audio recorder and another lens. Additionally, possibly cast someone else of keep him, but tell him to convey the emotions differently because it was not as I imagined. This was not least favorite film just because of the stress it put on me to get it done in time. I did like some of the shots and I am being biased, but I did like the original concept. It did need revisions so it could be conveyed properly.

I honestly participated very little in the script writing process or character development except for the first couple of days. Script writing is something I am not interested in and I didn't really care what the script was. The only contributions I made was writing on the board and killing off Hayley in the end. Killing off Hayley was a joke too, but at least I contributed.
How I have filled my time
This semester I have done all my work and completed it on time. I did take days where I did very little but have done all my work. I worked on a client project earlier in first quarter for home selling. I did that on my own time and edited in class when I was actually given time to do something. That fizzled out after the final edit I sent her because she never responded so. I also didn't enjoy working with her so I wasn't mad. I also chose to participate in the GIRLS documentary. I did all the projects assigned and the extra credit project. I probably could have finished earlier with some projects bud did not have a lot of motivation. I don't really do anything outside of class to enhance my work. I guess I watch movies, but that is it. I have very little to no inspiration to shoot. I do have a list of classic movies and movies that sound interesting I want to watch but it is not a priority. Honestly, this year so far is just me going through the motions getting things done just for a grade.
Things I'm okay at
I guess my strengths are getting things done on time, completing tasks I'm assigned to, sometimes organization, and taking charge ins situations I'm needed in. I always complete assignments on time just so I get the full credit because that's how I'm conditioned. I did stay with the GIRLS documentary all the way through despite other people dropping because of outside conflicts. I feel it is important to stick with what you say you are going to do because flaky people suck. Although, I suppose that is contradictory to what I said previously about sending the final edit and when she did not reply, not following up. I think I did a decent job organizing both video projects this semester within the groups. It was difficult and probably could have done better, but I got the job done. The organization goes along with leadership. I took charge in both situations because it was needed in order to get the project completed and done on time. Overall though, I do not like being the leader because there is a lot of pressure and I don't think I'm good at it.
Things I suck at
I could improve on cleaner edits, more interesting camera shots, participation, general interest, motivation. The only way for me to get better at editing is do more of it and watch video tutorials. That goes the same for camera shots. I should participate more in this class and my classes overall, but I don't really like speaking in front of people and don't want to sound stupid. Participation goes with communication which I can do through writing but not through speaking. This year I seem to have lost interest and my passion for this class. I don't know if it is from a new teacher or senioritis or just that I have no clue what I'm going to do in college, but my interest level in this class has gone down leading to me not putting in all my effort all the time. Not sure what to do about it besides trying to explore more interests, but I can't really do that in this class since it's video based. I'm also not sure what other interests I have that I could pursue a career in.
People Talking to Us
Honestly didn't really learn much from Mr. Lamb the first time he spoke to us. He just went over video production information I already knew. The second time he visited was more interesting because he brought equipment. It was cool seeing industry level equipment. I can't really apply this to my videos because I do not have access to it but I guess it will make me think of a more variety of shots. Joshua was cool to hear from. I never thought about advertising as a career and it was cool to see the projects he's worked on. Seeing the different graphics he integrates into the ads makes me think of different ways I can integrate graphic design into my video work.
Shaky seats and Being sprayed with air experience
The MX4D allows viewers to become more immersed in the movie than 3D movies by using the 5 senses. The movie theatre enhances the viewer experience using moving chairs, water squirters, scents sprays, and other sense stimulators. I learned that I don't like MX4D and I like things kept the way they are in a movie theater, besides the prices. I am unsure of how I could apply this to my videos because I'm not going to spray scents in the air while people watch my videos, not am I going shake their chairs or sprinkle snow over them. This will probably bring a brief spike to the movie industry because it's new and exciting, but will die soon because of price and if the effects are poorly matched like they were in Justice League.

Looking Back
The only things I've really enjoyed about this semester was that it's my senior year and becoming closer friends with the other seniors. This is out of my control but it would be nice to have kept interest in this class. I also would have liked to not have had to join the JCMH video project, but since people seem to be unable to be responsible enough to follow through on projects I guess I have to. And the people there are nice and do not deserve to be flaked on because all they want is a very corny ethics and compliance videos to make learning more interesting. I guess a goal next year is to work on things I'm interested in or find things I'm interested in. Or maybe watch more movies on my list, but I need to be able to access them but since the school blocks everything thats an inconvenience. Also having to ask the teacher to unlock it is very annoying. Not sure how to sum up the semester besides my interest and passion has disappeared.
