The Hidden Premiere

My Role  My role in The Hidden was costume designer. It was difficult to plan all the outfits in advance due to filming dates being moved around so I did not have the ability to plan in advance as much as I would have liked. it was also kind of difficult to come up with a variety of costumes that weren't boring and repetitive. I learned that it was important to communicate with the actors in advance and have good communication with the director so we are on the same page for the vibe of it. I think my work was alright, it didn't make much of an impact because it was everyday clothes. I have used my time 75/100 productively. Sometimes I would work on graphic/photoshop projects in my free time or client work. I watch movies and a variety of shows outside of class. I think I am decent at time management and leadership. I complete most of my projects on time and can lead a project/group when necessary. I could improve on my collaboration with others especially with talking to n...

Costume Design

In the article from No Film School , the writer emphasized the idea that the way an actor is dressed is equally important as the way the actor is lit and framed. The costumes serve as another tool to communicate to the audience the scene, setting, and the character's persona. Along with that, the costume should be consistent in portraying the character's style, yet stand out from the background.c In the class feature film I took the role as costume designer. For this role I had to come up with costume ideas for each actor to wear that would fit the mood of the movie. I first asked Brady what kind of vibe the actors and film would have and based my ideas off of that. Since the film was action and the characters were everyday people. costumes were easy to do. I created a Polyvore page at the beginning to give actors an idea of the outfits I wanted them in. I also created a Google spreadsheet to organize costumes by filming date, scenes, and the actors. This was helpful until f...

Senior Reflection

Freshmen Year When I first applied to e-Comm in eighth grade I came in knowing almost nothing about the four strands. What prompted me to join was my interest in photography.  Technology Freshmen year I was introduced to final cut pro, sketch up, and the beginnings of how to use a camera. Getting an introduction into these different forms of technology allowed me to get an understanding of what strand I wanted to join. It was difficult to learn animation due to our teacher not even knowing the program himself. That experience lead me to be unable to get me a true understanding of what animation was.  Collaboration Freshmen year we did many group project in order to get to know each other. One of the group projects  I remember most was a short action scene we had to film with classmates. As a group we had to come up with a script, film it, and edit it. Our final project was a group project where we had to come up with a product idea and present it to teachers a...

This Semester... PSA Our first project this semester was our PSA about peer pressure. It took us about 2-3 days to film and a week overall including editing. We struggled as a group to figure out filming time because of conflicting schedule and everyone participating. I definitely should have dressed more of the part for my role because it did not match. We should have also gotten better audio and lighting in certain scenes, especially the night scene. People overall liked the PSA except for the sound and lighting. If we refilmed it I would definitely change my outfit, get better audio, lighting, and use a different lens to create more depth. This was the better video of this semester. For a more in depth response:  Peer Pressure Blog Post Short Film Our group originally chose Courtney's script, but after shooting we realized that the footage was bad and trying to do a party scene would not work. Instead we chose my script, but revised it in order to be able to s...

MX4D Experience

Image
MX4D is a  relatively new interactive experience for movie goers. The MX4D allows viewers to become more immersed in the movie than 3D movies by using the 5 senses. The movie theatre enhances the viewer experience using moving chairs, water squirters, scents sprays, and other sense stimulators. I had been to one MX4D theatre previously at Sea World. It had been quite a few years so my memory of the experience was not clear. What I remembered was being sprayed with water, but that is about it. My experience was sub par. I was sitting in the very front row so that negatively affected my experience. I think the moving seats was the best overall, but I did not enjoy the weird butt bumps because it did not match well with the movie. My least favorite part of the experience was the water/air sprays. In theory it's nice if there is water action, but when there was gun shots it was just annoying being sprayed at the back of my head repeatedly. I think MX4D negatively affected my view o...

Short Film Strangers

Our group originally chose Courtney's script, but after shooting we realized that the footage was bad and trying to do a party scene would not work. Instead we chose my script, but revised it in order to be able to shoot it as efficiently as possible. My script was originally about a boy and girl who both suffered from social anxiety and together they are able to work on it and overcome it.  The pre-production process was rushed due to our time restraints. Courtney spent a day revising the script to reduce the amount of locations we had to go to. I called a couple coffee shops to see if we could film there, but ended up filming everything at JCCC. I also created shot lists for our shoot day in order to try and give some structure and efficiency. Courtney was our actress and she found Danny for our actor. I was the cinematographer and editor for the film. Originally Grayson was the cinematographer, but was unable to make the shoot.  On a Saturday Courtney, Danny, Wes, a...

Peer Pressure PSA

Image
Peer Pressure For our PSA we decided to choose peer pressure as our topic. It is a topic that most people can relate to. We took inspiration from one of the example videos of having different situations throughout the video. To make it more interesting we wanted to shoot it in first person perspective so the camera was the person who was being peer pressured. All of the actors had to look into the camera like it was the person. The whole video was going to be pretty much one shot for each scene. The scenarios we chose were some of the most common situations someone would be pressured in. We shot most of our scenes at school during the day because most of these situations were related to high school or young adult issues. The only scene we had to film outside of school was the drunk driving scene because most times it occurs at night.  As the cinematographer I decided not to use a tripod to make the shots less formal. I still tried to keep the shots relatively steady but no...
